Good News and Positive Stories

We want to be able to share Didcot's good news. If you have positive news about what's happening in and around the area - let us know and we'll share the story

Community Lunch relaunched as 'Community Matters'.

On Friday 8th July, Didcot First relaunched the Community Lunch under a new banner of Community Matters.  We invited all the organisations who make up the 'third sector' in Didcot and asked them what they wanted of such an event.  So it looks like we will continue to run a day time gathering as a way of organisations networking and taking local action.  If you belong to a group which isn't yet involved - why not get in touch and get yourself an invite to the next event.

Show homes open on Great Western Park.

Have you visited the show homes yet?  Taylor Wimpey have opened a visitor centre and 3 show homes on the site that will be Great Western Park.  There are 3, 4 and 5 bedroomed homes complete with finished decor and landscaped gardens - why not pop along, have a look and take in a different view of the power station cooling towers.  The homes are lovely and if nothing else inspire comments about interior design :)

Local author publishes childrens book.

Willie Pereira is just about to publish his first childrens story book - The Inside Out Rainbow - with Pearl Press. We are eagerly awaiting a copy in the Didcot First office to add to our Christmas window display of gift ideas from local artisans. We wish Willie every success with the book signings he has organised in the town.

Local butcher wins sausage award.

On Wednesday 10th November, Calnan Bros Butchers (Hagbourne Road) took part in the 3 Counties Sausage Competition and achieved a Gold Award in each category that they entered. So when you pay them a visit look out for their tradition pork, cider & sage, mixed pepper and Indian Dream sausages - and you'll know you are eating a winner!

Winning Partnerships - An award for RWE npower. P1854_20_10_10.jpg

On Wednesday 20th October the Oxfordshire Education Business Partnership presented their awards "recognising and celebrating the quality, value and impact of outstanding education-business linked activity across the county". The first award of the night was for "Exceptional contribution to 14 - 19 programmes" and was won by Didcot based RWE npower. BACAs 2010 a great success

Once again the Business and Community Awards proved to be a popular event - see the BACAs page sub section 2010 for the results and the pictures are in the Galleries.

The Treehouse set to open

Didcot is about to get a Childrens Play Centre. Opening on Saturday 23rd October on the Lower Broadway just in time for the half term break. A much needed facility and very welcome to Didcot. We wish them every success with their new venture.
